Welcome to Wollongong

The University of Wollongong's Innovation Campus (Squires Way) is located in a prime coastal location just minutes from Wollongong CBD.

Bus

The free Gong Shuttle service operates on a loop that connects the Innovation Campus with UOW main campus, Wollongong Hospital, Wollongong railway station, the city centre, Fairy Meadow railway station and the TAFE Campus. Buses travel in both directions on the loop.

Train

The Innovation Campus is located between North Wollongong and Fairy Meadow railway stations. Fairy Meadow station is approximately a 15 minute walk from the campus. The free Gong Shuttle stops near Fairy Meadow station.

While we encourage the use of public transport, there is on-site parking at the venue.

Registration desk

The registration desk is located along with the poster displays in ‘The Central’ (Building 230) Level 1 and will be open as follows:

  • Monday 20th July from 8 am
  • Tuesday 21st July from 8 am

Please visit the registration desk upon arrival to collect your name badge.

Access and inclusion

AAAPC supports an inclusive environment and we welcome parents with caring responsibilities. Parents’ Rooms are available, for parents and children, and are clearly labelled. Breastfeeding is welcome throughout the conference venue. The venue is wheelchair accessible.

Pre Conference Networking Drinks

Sunday 19 July, AAAPC will be hosting a pre-conference networking function from 6.30pm at Novotel Wollongong Northbeach, 2/14 Cliff Road, North Wollongong NSW 2500 with drinks to be purchased by attendees.

Conference dinner

Monday 20 July with drinks from 6:00 pm and dinner at 6:30 pm at Novotel Wollongong Northbeach, 2/14 Cliff Road, North Wollongong NSW 2500.

The conference dinner is also open to partners and can be purchased with your registration.

Geelong weather

July in Wollongong can be cold and blustery as it is on the coast. It is advisable to carry an umbrella with you at all times and to dress in layers, as the conference venue is well heated. Average temperatures range from a minimum of 90C to a maximum of 180C.

Catering
Morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch will be held in the registration foyer amongst the posters. Lunch will be served as an informal stand-up buffet with access to the courtyard should weather permit.  We endeavour to ensure delegates with dietary requirements are catered for. Should you require particular assistance, please make a note on your registration form.

Dress code

The dress code for the conference and all social functions is as you wish. 

Conference evaluation

The conference evaluation form will be e-mailed to you after the conference. You are encouraged to complete the conference evaluation as it assists us to plan future conferences.

Internet access
The Innovation campus has 'eduroam' Wi-Fi access available for delegates.

Luggage

Luggage can be stored at the registration desk during the Conference although this is not secure.

Transport Options

Sydney Airport

Wollongong is 80km from Sydney Airport's International and Domestic terminals. Transport options to Wollongong include:

Public transport

Wollongong is 85 minutes by train from Sydney Airport. North Wollongong Station, accessible on the South Coast Line, is the closest station to the University.

The Transport for NSW Trip Planner provides scheduled train times. Search for a journey from the “International Airport” or "Domestic Airport" to “North Wollongong Station”.  Take the train from the International or Domestic terminal to Wolli Creek.  From here, change to a Port Kembla, Dapto or Bomaderry train (South Coast Line).

The Innovation Campus is located between North Wollongong and Fairy Meadow railway stations. The free shuttle bus operates between North Wollongong Station, Fairy Meadow Station and the Campus. Fairy Meadow station is approximately a 15-minute walk from the campus.

Taxis and private transport

Taxis do not generally operate between Sydney Airport and Wollongong. Several private transport companies provide airport pick up services using small buses or hire cars.  Some rideshare companies also operate between Sydney and Wollongong. 

Shellharbour Airport

Shellharbour Airport is located 20 minutes south of the Wollongong Campus. Transport options between the Airport and Wollongong Campus include:

Car hire

The Airport has several car rental companies located nearby.  When booking, request to meet them at the Airport Terminal when you arrive/depart.

Public transport

Albion Park Train Station is 950 meters or an 11-minute walk from the Airport Terminal. North Wollongong Station, on the South Coast Line, is the closest station to UOW. It is a 23-minute journey between the stations.
